Remembering Robinett

Writer's picture: AngelaSAngelaS

My truth? The past coupe of years, I had a hard time keeping up...Spring, Summer and soon Fall has rolled around and my mind, my heart is still in December 2015 with my sister Robinett Brooks who passed away a short 5 days after a very unsuspected diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia ( AML) those "I can't believe she's gone!!" moments are still there but I can now reflect and remember with a smile...I thank God that her memory continues to carry on the work she's done throughout her life, Robinett was a loving self sacrificing giver who didn't mind honestly sharing her story if she thought it could help someone else. She was a community builder who went out of her way to promote and build relationships.....these things about her provoked me to utilize her story to continue sharing, giving and be a part of building something bigger than Leukemia ...so as some of you may know I've joined my local Leukemia Lymphoma Society( LLS) and now serve as the Community Outreach Volunteer which helps me honor my sister....as I remember her even her memory continues to be a light.

I'm grateful this year has been much better. During my journey I've learned to hold on to my faith and my memories. I took the time to attend grief support groups and surrounded myself with "safe place " people. Living through the loss has been easier because I know I'll see her again.....
